At least it was a good comeback
As little use as I had at the time for the late Gov. George C. Wallace of Alabama (he cleaned up his act late in life), I've always admired his response to a reporter's revelation of what he thought would be a "bombshell" regarding the segregationist Presidential candidate: that he had once been under a psychiatrist's care.
"I have a piece of paper signed by a psychiatrist certifying that I'm sane," Wallace replied. "What proof do you have?"
Although I would hardly put him in the same category as Wallace, Sen. John McCain is not my favorite politician- and I think he showed remarkably poor judgment in appearing recently in an R-rated film, one apparently replete with more than a few topless women. Nevertheless, in the same spirit in which I admired Wallace's comeback, I have to admire McCain's admittedly slightly off-color response when asked about that decision.
