National Ocean Service goes on record: 'No evidence of mermaids'

The United States government has officially gone on record as stating that there is no evidence of the existence of mermaids.

The statement was suspiciously silent, however, as to the existence of mermen.

Seriously, the Discovery Channel apparently ran a tongue-in-cheek program last May which Uncle Sam apparently feared could have been mistaken for an actual documentary. So the National Ocean Service felt compelled to put a page on its website refuting the the fishy tale that there were people with fishy tails in the ocean.
