Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has won the Likud Party primary to succeed Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as leader of the conservative bloc.

Sharon, meanwhile, is recovering from a minor stroke which throws his ability to lead the new, centrist Kadima Party into the upcoming election into queston.

Kadima has a strong lead in the polls, and Labor seems nowhere to be seen.
