Rasmussen: Huckabee, Giuliani now tied for first nationally!

I just got back from the opening of the new, expanded Huckabee headquarters here in Des Moines, where I heard about the new Rasmussen national poll on the Republican presidential nomination.

According to Rasmussen, Rudy Giuliani and Mike Huckabee are now tied for the national lead, with 18% each. McCain is at 14%, Thompson at 13%, and Romney- whom Jeff Fuller tells us that at least one prominent Iowa Romney supporter maintains is the only realistic alternative to Rudy- at 12%.

Fringe candidate Ron Paul, naturally, is left in the dust, with seven percent.

Jeff's attempt to link Huckabee to anti-Mormon prejudice in the post linked to above, BTW, is an especially low blow.

BTW, the USAToday/Gallup Poll out today also puts Romney in fifth place nationally- and Huckabee in second.

The answer to the question of who the most viable alternative to Giuliani is would seem to me to be pretty obvious- and it ain't Mitt Romney!
