I'm dizzy from the spin!

From Madeline Albright to Susan Estrich to the staff of CNN, the Left tonight was spinning a war in Iraq which is going quite well at the moment as a military disaster, and the President's failure to specify the inherently unknowable moment when the situation in Iraq will be sufficiently stable for our troops to leave as some sort of failure. It's more of the same kind of stuff we've heard from the media for weeks: reporting which has essentially sold the American people a bill of goods as to how the war is going and what our prospects are for success.

Abu Ghraib, to be sure, hasn't helped- but neither has the media's constant harping on what for the American military is an aberration. It seems amazingly clear that the media and many Democrats are bound and determined that we lose this war, if that's what it takes to drive George W. Bush from the White House.

In about six weeks, we will cede control of Iraq to an Iraqi government. Our casualties have been lighter than in any conflict (except the first Gulf War) in a century. Yet the media and the Left have sold the American people the totally bogus notion that Iraq is somehow a quagmire, a trap like Vietnam, instead of one of the most successful military episodes in human history, a geopolitical coup of the first magnitude, and a historic victory for democracy. Next January will see the first truly democratic national election in the history of the Arab world. The world is free of a dangerous dictator, one of the most vicious monsters of the modern age. Already tyrants from Libya to North Korea are coming to heal rather than deal with the wrath of the most determined American leader since FDR. And this is a bad thing?

If the Left and the media have their way, defeat will be snatched from the jaws of victory. To them, it seems, almost any price is worth it to defeat George W. Bush. They and they alone can cause our defeat in Iraq, and it seems that they are fully prepared to pay that price on behalf of all of us.

Personally, I believe that regardless of the outcome of the November election, the white-flag waivers in the media and on the Left deserve the unmitigated contempt of those of us who put the cause of freedom and the welfare of the nation ahead of partisan spirit and personal hatred.
