Governing Council out, Interim Government in- early

Though a month early, it seems that the interim Iraqi government has assumed power almost a month early, the Iraqi Governing Council- which saw itself to a considerable extent as window-dressing for Paul Bremer and the Coalition- having dissolved itself. This from the Washington Post.

Probably a good thing. An early inauguration of an elected government election- provided that al Sadr, Sistani, and the mullahs wasn't it- would probably have been the only better thing from the point of view of American foreign policy, and for that matter, the President's re-election.
