There's one problem with the possible Security Council resolution
Fox News points out that the way to a UN Security Council resolution mandating a multinational force to help keep peace in Iraq until 2006 will first have to get by our old friends, the Axis of Weasels.
France, Germany, Russia and China want "in" on the contracts involved in the rebuilding of Iraq. But France and Germany have already made it clear that they will not, under any circumstances, contribute troops to the peacekeeping force. Having voted their economic interests rather than the interests of world security in the leadup to the war, and having, in France's case, received bribes from Saddam in Oil for Food money in the process, the Weasels now are not content with suddenly coming on board after the United States, Britain, and their allies have done the "heavy lifting." Even now, the Weasels are unwilling to get their hands dirty- but are prepared to stand in the way of a Security Council resolution bringing stability and closure to the situation in Iraq unless they get their share of the economic pie nonetheless.
Some sort of compromise will doubtless emerge. But there's a real question as to just how far President Bush will- or should- go to accommodate the broken reeds upon which John Kerry wants to lean as allies in the war on terror.
