Exactly so!
Jewish social commentator- and social conservative- Dennis Prager has pretty much nailed not only the difference between Jewish social liberals and social conservatives, but also between "mainline" Protestants and "cafeteria Catholics," on one hand, and those who oppose gay marriage, abortion, and a host of other practices which contravene the teachings of the Bible on the other.
It all comes down to this: When one disagrees with the Bible, who is wrong?
Or, to put it another way, does the authority of God stand behind the text, or not?
Liberal Christians will bob and weave and hem and haw and tapdance all over the place to avoid admitting it, but when all is said and done, that is the bottom line.
It should be noted that, as Prager points out, Jewish secularists like Alan Dershowitz are, to their credit, generally more honest.

I love Prager. I have been reading him for quite some time. Actually watched his TV show back in the mid 90's (He was on just after Rush Limbaugh - when he did his brief TV stint too).
Prager is one of those who I think of as "not far from the kingdom". I often have to remind myself that, as a Jew (and a consistent one at that), he is not a believer in the true God.
Like Dr. Laura and other religious Jews with whom we have much in common - especially when it comes to moral issues in opposition to the mainstream of liberal society. But sadly, they are missing the one thing (person) that matters - Christ.
So is there really anything in common after all?
Maybe another way of looking at this is that they are great in the left hand kingdom, but in the right hand kingdom, just as wrong as the buddhist, muslim or rank atheist. Without Christ there is nothing.
Tragically, you're right, of course.
