As a practical matter, it turns out- same difference.

Hydrogen-3, aka tritium, decays into helium-3.

Either way, there is enough of it on the Moon to meet the Earth's energy needs for thousands of years. In fact, there's more of it on the Moon than there is oil on Earth!

Which re-inforces the wisdom of President Bush's plan to go back there.
