Denise and I were at our astronomy club's home base, Ashton Observatory, tonight when the Deep Impact probe hit Comet Tempel 1- but cloud cover prevented us from seeing anything.

Nevertheless, the probe hit the comet right on schedule, even without our help.

The mission should teach us a great deal not only about the composition of comets, but also about the origins and chemical make-up of the solar system.
