A new national emblem?

Dr. Veith's blog has an excellent entry on an article in the Wall Street Journal by Middle East expert Amir Tahiri on what Tahiri maintains is the Islamofascist's current strategy: waiting President Bush out until a weaker successor of either party wimps out on the war on terror.

Their slogan: "America always runs." And if they're right, our new national symbol in the eyes of the world will soon be (if it isn't already) the "last helicopter" fleeing from Saigon, Desert One, Lebanon, Mogadishu- and even from Iraq in 1991, leaving the war there half-won and Saddam's army essentially intact, its generals scratching their heads in relieved astonishment.

There are a great many foolish and short-sighted Americans who very much would like to help this dream come true- not from hatred of their own country so much as from naivete, ignorance, and a failure to learn from history.

That, and reckless, consuming hunger for partisan political advantage, augmented by a burning, intensely personal and all-distorting hatred of George Walker Bush. It seems, after all, that a goodly portion of the Dhimmicratic Party shares that dream about the helicopter.

The article itself takes a more sanguine view about America's post-Bush honor, resolve, and future. Here's hoping the article is right- and that the Islamofacists are merely the latest in a long series of enemies to underestimate- or perhaps I should say misunderestimate- America's character and resolve.
