If those who think they have a right to defy our laws and deny our borders their integrity believe that they can strong-arm their way to legitimacy by not going to the jobs they have illicitly obtained and not spending the money they have illicitly earned, it might be well for the rest of us to take up the slack.

I do not lack sympathy for the plight of those who have come here seeking to better their lot in life. But I lack all sympathy for the unapologetic way they claim that which they have violated our laws to obtain as theirs by right.

Many who would have been much friendlier to their cause out of charity will reject it now for the arrogance with which it is being asserted. But more than that, the idea that the rule of law does not apply to one particular ethnic group is a principle which we simply cannot allow to stand.

This is not, as the sponsors of today's boycott and demonstrations disingenuously suggest, about "immigration." It's about illegal immigration! By all means, let's welcome legal immigrants- who have indeed always been the backbone of our nation- with open arms.

But not ones who flaunt our laws, and then arrogantly demand to be allowed to get away with it as a matter of right.
