On the Left, name-calling always trumps rational debate
Dennis Prager has contemporary liberalism nailed.
And Joel McNally illustrates his point: liberals, by and large, have forgotten how to think, and how to carry on an intelligent and coherent debate. On the contemporary Left, it's all about emotion rather than thought- and name-calling rather than rational arguments.
I have more sympathy for the President's position on immigration than Rep. Sensenbruner does. I think Sensenbruner's position is heavy-handed and unrealistic. But for Sensenbruner to believe that defying the law is not a good thing does not make him a racist, and McNally's crack about his wanting to "make white the national color" is worthier of Joe McCarthy than of those usually associated with the liberal cause at least up until the Sixties.
Though since then, it's become more and more the Left's stock in trade. After all, the kind of over-the-top nonsense McNally employs against Sensenbrunner has constituted pretty much the sum total of the opposition to Mr. Bush over the past six years.
