Brownback is worth a look


Here is a look at another potential 2008 GOP candidate who perhaps is worth a look: Kansas Senator Sam Brownback.

Despite the ties of an influential member of his staff to the scary (though not Da Vinci Code-type scary) Catholic organization Opus Dei, this Catholic conservative seems to me to hit some major buttons right.

I'm curious why you call Opus Dei "scary." They tend to be secretive, true. Have you read the book by John Allen? It's quite balanced and helpful.

No, I haven't read Allen's book, though it sounds like I should. I simply find people who walk around wearing barbed wire under their clothes (kind of missing the point of what the ĻƒĪ±ĻĻ‡ Paul talks about mortifying actually is) a little creepy.
