Formula for success
Patrick Chisholm, writing in The Christian Science Monitor, lays out the essentials of American foreign policy- which, as long as we adhere to them, will always serve us well.
Their essence is summarized by an interesting experiment:
While the jealous abroad and the self-hating at home will doubtless dispute this point, the above is patently Bush foreign policy- hamstrung in its preference for option number one only by the unwillingness of the effete and the ineffectual has-beens of history and the stone madmen of the world to play nice with us.
The Democrats, of course, take it as a matter of principle that only principle number one should govern the United States, and that principle number two is admissable only for those who wish us ill.
If success is defined as survival, the Bush foreign policy- which the ideologically-driven MSM keeps repeating ad nauseum is such a failure- is in fact the only possible formula for success.
Success for the United States, anyway. Because, face it: like the Soviet Union, as discussed in Chisholm's article, those who oppose us in the world would not be mollified by any change in our foreign policy. They would only be encouraged in their ill-will.

A computer model... illustrated this lesson. Developed by The Santa Fe Institute, it was a digital fish tank. Users could introduce new life forms to observe whether their species thrived or died out among the other life forms. According to tech guru Winn Schwartau, each life form had a complex set of rules governing its behavior. Over time, wrote Schwartau, the life form that consistently dominated abided by the following rules:
"1. My species will always play nice with you. I will never be aggressive to you. We will make every attempt to cooperate and work with you and everyone in our (global) fish tank.
2. If you [mess] with me, I will annihilate you without any warning. Period."
That was written pre-9/11. Like Japan and Germany 60 years prior, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and Saddam Hussein discovered how seriously we take Rule #2.
And as long as we keep abiding by both rules, America, like the fish in the digital fish tank, will stay on top.
