"Compassionate Conservatism" lives

Despite the wishful thinking of media, the Far Left and the Far Right alike, "compassionate conservatism" is both very real, and very far from being dead.

He who establishes himself as its most viable champion two years hence will likely be my choice for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination.

My understanding and appreciation of conservatism is more in line with Goldwater's presentation.

I recently read his 'Conscience of a Conservative' (complete with into by Pat Buchanan!). All told, he weaves a compelling vision. I can't say I buy it whole-heartedly, but it does seem to be an honest and complete description of conservatism.

My main complaint with GWB is that he is neither compassionate nor conservative.

May I ask how you define conservatism?

We disagree about Mr. Bush on both accounts.

I would define conservatism as that tendency which sustains the proven and the of traditional until and unless a departure from it can be shown to be a bttter option.
