Perhaps worth a read

Here's a review of an enlightening- if flawed- book on the mistakes the United States has made in prosecuting the war in Iraq.

The author of the book- Thomas Ricks- is a critic of the war, but that doesn't mean that everything he says has to be wrong.

I have heard from sources that I trust that this is worth reading. I think that the review you linked is accurate. I have not read the book, but was personally involved in the CPA and it's predecessor, ORHA. The federal (read: non-military) response to post-conflict was indeed a fiasco.

A much better book is "Cobra II" by General Trainor. I was involved in the planning process at USCENTCOM and agree largely with his assessment. We have made a lot of mistakes, but it wasn't with malice. The biggest problem is that the problem is almost too large for we mere mortals to deal with. That being said, we will continue to try.

Keep up the great blogging.
