Bob, please help me understand your perspective...you know what the Quran says about actions (that we westerners call crimes) against the so-called "people of the book." You know what the Quran says about relationships of husband and wife. You know I could go on... You know that the bible has no similar precepts regarding justice. It's as if God has no problem with "some" forms of adultery, or "some" forms of murder. Given the latitude that we all want to give to "moderate" muslims, it seems to me we could be calling on Christians to accept the PCUSA stand on homosexuals, or abortion for that matter. Why DON'T we all just LIBERALIZE all our sacred words the way we're SUPPOSED to? According to perhaps the associated press or Time Magazine or the the Ba'Hai faith? It just seems to me that the muslim "radicals" are the ones that really care what their sacred words really SAY!!
The Quran says a great many things about the People of the Book, by no means all of them consistent. There are Muslims, first, who choose to interpret the applicable passages in light of the more reasonable ones. There are other Muslims who simply aren't into subjugating the Western world, so their interpretation of how to handle the dhimmi doesn't arise.
Let Muslims believe what they will. Insofar as they are not seeking to advance their agenda by force, they pose no threat.
It's the minority who do seek to do so who are the problem.
