I should be interested to konw how it is that you rae related to Henry Joy McCracken hung in Belfast in 1798! I am researching the genealogy and history of this family!
Shane, I wish I knew more; one of my ambitions is some day to trace my family in Counties Down and Antrim as far back as I can. That would, of course, give me further details about the McCracken connection.
All I know is that my father, who died in 1978, used to tell that we are descended from him. That would of necessity mean that we are descended from his only child, his illegitimate daughter, Maria, who was raised by his sister Mary Ann after his death.
Dad was one generation removed from Belfast; his father came across the Pond to study for the Presbyterian ministry in the States. Beyond that, I'm pretty much in the dark. If you come across the Waters connection, please let me know.
Or it could be a Fischer connection; I'm not sure which of my paternal grandparents the line runs through.
