Bolton blasts U.S. cowardice

Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton herein takes the Bush administration properly to task for its failure to be more forceful on behalf of our democratic ally, the Republic of Georgia, which this week week was invaded by the Soviet Unio- er, the Russians.

Bolton is right- and so is John McCain: as far as the G-8 is concerned, Russia's expulsion is utterly obligatory. And so is the repeal of every mark of economic and diplomatic favor the United States has extended to Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

After all, the Soviet Union seems to be back in all but name.

First Poland in 1956. Then Czechloslovakia in 1968. And now... Georgia in 2008. What, exactly, has changed?
