Dubya blasts Chinese regime of terror

President Bush- to his eternal credit- has taken the occasion of the arrest of three American Christians protesting for religious freedom in Tiananmen Square to roundly condemn China's obscene human rights record.

Such a word was more than needed at the outset of the Bejing Olympics.

The Chinese regime has murdered at least 35,208,000 of its own people since Mao took power in October of 1949. It continues to persecute Christians who refuse to knuckle under to its own puppet leaders, to repress minorities, and to suppress dissent. The crackdown on dissidents- including former Olympic gold medal winners- in the months leading up to the Olympics has been well documented.

In my opinion, we have no business sending a team to Bejing. But given the fact that we have, President Bush deserves credit for holding these bloodthirsty totalitarians to account.
