Oh, that's an old joke!
Scholars at the University of Wolverhampton in England have uncovered what they say is the world's oldest joke, told by the Sumerians around 1900 B.C.
It goes: "Something which has never occurred since time immemorial: a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap."
Ok, so the writers were on strike back then.
The second oldest joke, dating from 1600 B.C., is from Egypt: "How do you entertain a bored pharaoh? You sail a boatload of young women dressed only in fishing nets down the Nile and urge the pharaoh to go catch a fish."
The oldest known joke in the English language dates from the 10th Century, and will not be told here, since this is a family site.
Oh, those Anglo-Saxons!
