Requiem for a presidential candidacy
Charles Krauthammer has done a very fine post-mortem on the presidential candidacy of John McCain- a man who sacrificed for his country as few of us have, served it long and faithfully, but in the end was unable to convince us that courage, honor, and love of country ought to trump empty eloquence and personal charisma.
If, in the end, he was a less than effective presidential nominee, he still deserved better of us than defeat at the hands of a man with no such illustrious resume, and in fact no particular resume at all- despite the sterling intellectual qualifications Krauthammer duly acknowledges, and one of the most effective presidential campaigns in modern history.
