Ziegler on that Zogby poll
Here is an interview with John Ziegler, the filmmaker responsible for the upcoming film Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected.
Ziegler was the man who commissioned that controversial poll by the Zogby organization which seemed to reveal that Obama voters knew all about scandals, embarassments, and other problems as they related to John McCain or Sarah Palin (even when the alleged incidents were actually fabrications), but were remarkably ignorant of similar infelicities involving Barack Obama or Joe Biden. Critics have condemned the poll on methodological grounds, and John Zogby- who was not directly involved in it- says now that he would never have approved the poll in the form in which it was actually used.
Yet the point of the poll was not- as the left and the media have generally assumed- to make Obama voters look stupid. Quite to the contrary, its target was the media. Ziegler's hypothesis- which is a compelling one no matter how one sees the poll he commissioned- is that the media utterly failed to give adequate attention to the background, positions, and history of the Democratic ticket, and tended to sweep incidents embarassing to them under the rug- while dwelling lovingly on faux pas involving McCain and Palin, even in the case of Palin of confusing statements made by Tina Fey of Saturday Night Live in lampooning the GOP vice-presidential nominee with statements Palin herself had made.
Ziegler's argument is pretty much beyond dispute: that the media was so deeply in the tank for Barack Obama that it abysmally failed in its responsibility to adequately inform the American people concerning anything about the Democratic ticket that might be perceived negatively, while pursuing matters embarassing to the Republican ticket with unbecoming and unprofessional zeal.
