More on Emanuel's and Menino's campaigns against orthodox Christians
I've come across a number of interesting items concerning the effort of social Leftists like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Boston Mayor Tom Menino to put orthodox Christians in the same category as racists by portraying opposition to same- sex "marriage" as bigotry.
It seems that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has more respect for the First Amendment- and the Western ethical tradition- than do Emanuel and Menino. Bloomberg has come to Chick-fil-A's defense- not by espousing its position, but by defending its right to hold it without municipal retribution.
Can Emanuel and Menino really not see how outrageous their position is?
Meanwhile, Michael Graham of the Boston Herald finds it interesting that Mayor Menino will not countenance the licensing of restaurants run by people who are vocally opposed to re-defining the most basic institution of human society, but is apparently OK with the Islamic Association of Boston's new mosque- among whose leaders is a "progressive" imam who argues that women, too, should be allowed to be suicide bombers, and states that "a homosexual should (be given) the same punishment as any sexual pervert . . . Some say we should throw them from a high place, like God did with the people of Sodom. Some say we should burn them.”
But it's OK. He hasn't expressed opposition to allowing them to marry, he doesn't sell chicken sandwiches- and above all, he's not an orthodox Christian.
Richard Allen Greene of CNN reports that Billy Graham has also come to the defense of Chick-fil-A.
Meanwhile, on another topic, Lisa Miller (!) of Newsweek bemoans the pettiness and intolerance of atheists these days.
