Is it Romney-Petraeus?

Matt Drudge is reporting that President Obama believes that Mitt Romney wants CIA director and retired four-star general David Petraeus to be his running mate.

Petraeus was the architect of the "surge" which enabled the United States to exit Iraq with a reasonable prospect of the Iraqi government's survival. He was also the commander who turned what seemed to be a doomed effort in Afghanistan around to the point where the issue is at least in doubt.

In a slap at Drudge, White House Press Secretary told reporters to "be mindful of your sources" when asked about the report.

Drudge reports that Romney was asked about the rumor, but declined to respond. Petraeus has repeatedly denied any interest in entering the political arena. The rumor isbased on an overheard comment by President Obama to a Democratic fundraiser. It should probably be taken with about a carload of salt. But if Romney asks, and Petraeus agrees, it could be a game-changer.
