New lows: Biden accuses Romney of wanting to bring back slavery, mimics sign-language interpreter
Joe Biden- the clown prince of American politics, whom President Obama had the exquisite judgment to put one heartbeat from the presidency and who inspired Osama bin Laden to plot the assassination of Mr. Obama for the precise purpose of putting him in the White House- is widely known for letting his mouth get way, way ahead of his brain. The most amazing things are apt to come out of Mr. Biden's mouth. But he's outdone himself this time.
He claims that Mitt Romney wants to return Afro-Americans to slavery:
Joe, it was the Republican party that eliminated the custom of putting chains on Americans. It was the Democrats who favored keeping them on.
But Biden's outrageous comment isn't the most shocking part of the story.
That would be the fact that the Obama campaign is standing by Biden's statement.
"The bottom line is that we have no problem with those comments," said Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutler.
But on the other hand, why should the statement be shocking? After all, the Obama campaign is allowing an authorized Super PAC to continue to run a slanderous, falsehood-filled ad blaming Mitt Romney for the cancer death of the wife of a worker who was laid off five years after Romney left Bain Capital, who was offered a buyout by his employer- and whose wife had insurance of her own.
The Obama campaign repudiated the ad, but the PAC plans to continue to run it- while retaining the Obama campaign's endorsement.
Meanwhile, our national embarassment, Mr. Biden, isn't satisfied with slandering Gov. Romney.
Folks, it seems to me that choosing Joe Biden as his running-mate demonstrates conclusively that Barack Obama lacks the judgement to be president. He maked Sarah Palin look positively presidential. And if he were a Republican, he'd be a bigger laughingstock than Dan Quayle ever was.

ADDENDUM: The Obama campaign is claiming that Biden's "chains" comment was only a play on the Romney theme of taking the chains off America's job generating capacity by removing regulations which cripple industry.
Perhaps. But what other group of Americans than Afro-Americans have ever been in chains? As with the President's notorious "you didn't build that" comment, the Obama campaign is essentially using the same approach Richard J. Daley's press secretary, Earl Bush, used to take with Chicago papers: "Don't print what he says. Print what he means."
But public leaders are responsible for what they say, however the late Mayor Daley and President Obama and Vice-President Biden might want to avoid that responsibility.
How else are we supposed to know what they mean?
