In memory of Jim Meyers

I was just thinking earlier today about one of my roommates at River Forest (and afterward, at the apartment in Maywood where I stayed before leaving for Dubuque and seminary), the late Jim Meyers.

Jim, like yours truly, had ancestors who came at one point from Scotland. While neither of us had any Welsh blood that we knew of, we both were extremely fond of "Men of Harlech," the stirring battle song featured in climactic scenes of the motion picture Zulu, which told of the heroic stand of the largely Welsh Number 5 Field Company, Royal Engineers, at the Battle of Roark's Drift, Natal, in 1829.

The words used below are the original. It was recorded by the chorus of the Royal Regiment of Wales at the church at Roark's Drift.
