Abraham Lincoln wrote, "I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong." That means putting country ahead of party and conscience ahead of conformity. And that is why I am a FORMER Republican.
'I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you.'
I see a larger role than do doctrinaire conservatives for the Federal government in our national life. Yet I have to admit that Rush Limbaugh's statement that the ten scariest words in the English language are "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you" has a certain plausibility.
