The excesses of McCarthyism and the extremes of the conservative movement have, over the years, led most reasonable people to roll their eyes when domestic political movements are said to be tainted by Communist influence. Crying wolf has one drawback, as the little boy in the fable found out the hard way: when a real wolf shows up, people aren't listening anymore.
But sometimes the wolves are real. And in this case, they're howling.
