Sign of the (end?) times
Promiscuity is a besetting problem for male homosexuals, as (until recently) they themselves were commendably willing to admit. The average straight man has nine sexual partners in his lifetime; the average gay man has over a hundred. And I continue to be bemused by the fact that the AIDS epidemic coincided with the drive to mainstream homosexuality.
That being the case, this story is a fascinating- and rather transparent- exercise in spin. Is HIV somehow not a problem in countries which are not "anti-gay?"
I will say this, though: the problem of promiscuity among gay men isn't because they are gay.
It's because they are men. If women were willing to have sex as readily as men are, straight men would be promiscuous, too. And as this story illustrates, the consequences are the same.
