Consider, too, a basic fallacy Trumpfolk like to cite, and which even this article buys into. It simply isn't true that a candidacy which only targets certain states is a spoiler candidacy, meant to throw the election into the House of Representatives.

In 1860 Abraham Lincoln didn't win a single Southern state. In fact, I am unaware of a single Southern state in which he was even on the ballot.

Yet he won a majority of the electoral votes, and thus the election.
