So what just happened in Singapore?

At first glance, not much.

President Trump agreed to stop holding joint war games with our fellow democracy, South Korea. Kim Jong Un gave vague promises of "working toward" the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula

Whether Kim's promise is worth a hill of beans remains to be seen. Will North Korea give us a full list of their nuclear sites, together with progress reports on their dismantling? Will North Korea, in fact, actually do anything at all?  At this point, we just don't know.

Certainly, the spectacle of a summit meeting between the President of the United States and the dictator of North Korea is startling and historic. Significant? We have yet to see. At this point, the United States has given something significant up to North Korea by curtailing our military exercises with the South. The North has given nothing but vague promises. We have danced this dance before.

I can't say I'm entirely surprised, though, that President Trump and Kim Jong Un hit it off so well, Kim, after all, is Mr. Trump's kind of guy. It's democratic leaders like Macron and Merkle that he has trouble with.
