Yeah, people lie about Trump, too

And that's as stupid as it is pointless because heaven knows the truth about Trump is bad enough.

One of the problems with our hyperpartisan politics is that we can't even criticize the other side and get it straight.

Not long ago I came across a news item claiming that President Trump said that the homeless should ask for help "politely." I responded with a snarky tweet asking evangelicals whether Jesus ever advocated requiring the unfortunate to ask for help politely.

Except that's not what President Trump said. Not by a long shot. Fairness is fairness, and his comment was directed not at the homeless themselves but at the Democratic governors of California and New York. He said that if they can't deal with the homeless problem in their states they should ask the Federal government for help politely.

First, I apologize to the president for mischaracterizing his remark. Secondly, I ask my fellow Trump critics how they expect to be taken seriously when they criticize his constant barrage of lies if they are going to lie about him.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Donald Trump is without question the biggest liar in the history of American national politics, and his lying shouldn't be excused by saying that the other side does it too.

But they do, and when they do, they lose any standing to criticize Mr. Trump for doing it.
