Pin the blame on the donkey

National Review retains sufficient contact with reality to admit that it's not the only reason, but it's come up with at least a partial excuse for President Trump dropping the ball when it came to preparing America for this pandemic.

Impeachment. It distracted the poor man.

Pathetic.  Nothing is ever Donald Trump's fault. Even his own catastrophically poor leadership that may result in the unnecessary deaths of tens of thousands of Americans because Mr. Trump knew better than the CDC and the world's authorities on immunology is the Democrats' fault. How dare they try to hold him accountable for abusing his power and obstructing both a Justice Department investigation and a legally legitimate and constitutionally authorized investigation by a co-equal branch of government? Why, wasn't he acquitted of both charges despite overwhelming evidence of his guilt in a purely partisan act by a servile Senate of his own party?

I suppose we should be grateful that for a change, they're not blaming Obama. But this kind of nonsense in the wake of The Federalist's descent to the level of Alex Jones and Info Wars past week makes one wonder whether much of what used to be the responsible conservative media have any shame at all and whether once Mr. Trump is gone from the scene it will ever be able to regain its credibility.

I will not address the issue of self-respect.

In any event, when the stakes are as high as they were in the face of a looming pandemic, one must ask whether being distracted is an excuse when you're the President of the United States and currently asking the nation for a second term.

ADDENDUM: You can't make this stuff up.

I hadn't heard this, but apparently yesterday Mitch McConnell made the same bizarre and pathetic excuse for the man.

Perhaps Adderall or Focalin might put Mr. Trump back on track.  But I doubt it. I think a change of employment might be the ticket.

I have a hunch "Sleepy Joe" wouldn't have been so easily distracted.
