Dudes and dudesses, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination is...

Hey. Who's gonna run against him?

It's still his party. The GOP is a cult of personality. Its platform this year was literally nothing more or less than "Whatever Trump says."

Literally.

Could Pence run? Only with Trump's blessing.

Could Ted Cruz run without Trump's blessing? Maybe. But I doubt very much that he could win without Trump's blessing, or even stay in the race very long if he runs against him.

"Little Mario?" It is to laugh.

How about Nikki Haley? Well, she can try. (Snicker).

Donald Trump isn't going away. He will be the de facto head of the opposition to President Joe Biden going forward. And if he is alive, he will run again in 2024. His ego will not permit him to do otherwise. And those who have sold out to the crazy couldn't reverse course and command the respect or attention of serious people even if Trump were no longer around.

This is the Trump Party now. It always will be, from here on out. The Republican Party cannot be saved; it can only be replaced.

BUT...

Mr.  Trump is a clown. He cannot be other than a clown. Martin Luther said at the Diet of Worms, "Hier stehe ich; ich kann nicht anders. Gott helfe mir! Amen!" ("Here I stand; I cannot do otherwise. God help me! Amen!"). For Trump, it's "I'm running, and I'm a clown. I can't help myself. Wakka wakka!"

The GOP is dead as anything but a comedy act. There is one sense, and one sense only, in which the Republican Party has a future: as a source of levity: as a comedy act, starring Donald Trump.

Après Joe, le déluge. Joe Biden is, in essence, the last traditional Democrat. When he's done, the AOCs will take over, and there needs to be a credible opposition to them.

I see no prospect of it coming from the Republicans. The GOP is simply no longer a credible entity.
