Gorillas pushed to brink of extinction by... Ebola?

An outbreak of the Ebola virus in the northwestern Congo has killed 5,000 Western gorillas... and brought the species to the brink of extinction.

The Western gorilla is one of the two major species in the Congo. Its population was already experiencing greatly diminished numbers.
