The demagogues win: Zimmerman to stand trial for not letting Trayvon Martin kill him

George Zimmerman has been criminally charged for defending his life against a hoodlum who was trying to kill him. His real crime: protecting himself from grievous bodlily harm inflicted by an African-American while white.

This in spite of the fact that four eyewitnesses and the forensic evidence support Zimmerman's story that Trayvon Martin responded to being asked why he was wandering around a gated community in which he didn't life at a suspicious hour with an unprovoked punch to Zimmerman's face, after which Martin sat on him, pounded his head onto the concrete, and tried to take Zimmerman's gun away from him. This in spite of the fact that Martin's body bore no signs of violence other than the gunshot wound, whereas Martin was treated for precisely the injuries the eyewitnesses said that Martin inflicted.

Police declined to prosecute Zimmerman because he had patently done nothing wrong. There was no evidence to suggest that he had. But that wasn't good enough for the racist demagogues who- aided and abetted by a gutless press which shamelessly ran not only their incendiary rhetoric without balancing it with the facts, but continue to publish and display a prejudicially dated photograph of the mustachioed 17 year-old Martin taken when he was a smooth-faced child- first raved and wailed their way to the appointment of a special prosecutor, and now have managed to bring an innocent man to trial when there is really no factual evidence of his having broken the law.

The trial of George Zimmerman is political, not judicial. His crime is being white. If the roles were reversed, and an African-American had killed a white man in self defense with all of the other facts remaining exactly as they are, not only would that African-American not be brought to trial, but we would never have heard of the case. No charges would have been brought, and everybody would agree with the obvious: that there was no basis for them.

But the race-baiting demagogues have won the first round. What happens from here will speak volumes about whether the American judicial system has any integrity at all, or whether it's just another of our institutions prostituted to the demands of political correctness and Leftist ideology.

One thing, though: I do hope the media start doing their job and objectively reporting the facts. If they had done so from the beginning, this trial would never have taken place.
