It's over. America has prevailed, One thing remains.

Vice-President Pence has certified Joe Biden's election. President Trump has belatedly promised an "orderly transition."And Mitch McConnell has admitted that yesterday's events have "damaged our Republic forever."

One thing remains: Donald Trump must resign, be impeached and convicted, or be removed from office via the 25th Amendment before January 20.  He instigated this. Beyond the fact that he personally called for an event that under the circumstances could not have unfolded in any other way, yesterday's insurrection was the natural and inevitable result of everything Mr. Trump has said and has done for the last four years. And a growing number of Republican leaders and even cabinet members are at last coming to the realization that he cannot be allowed to finish the remaining two weeks of his term.

He must be disqualified from even running in 2024, and we must purge ourselves as a nation from the most shameful betrayal of the vision of the Founders and the very idea of America as a constitutional republic in history. This entire miserable, four-year-long nightmare must be purged from our national honor in the same way that Appomatox purged the treason of 1861.

ADDENDUM: Turns out- as it does all too often with the mainstream media- that Mitch McConnell's "damaged our Republic forever" comment was not a straightforward statement about yesterday's pro-Trump sedition. It was a comment on what would hypothetically have been the case if Trump's "rigged election" fraud had prevailed and the results of the election been set aside.

Both things are true, of course. But at least the soon-to-be Senate Minority Leader has confronted just how serious a lie the whopper the man they've been enabling the past four years has told the gullible and unquestioning rank-and-file of his party.
